Richard A. Ennis, CPFO

Executive Director

Richard A. Ennis, CPFO, is Executive Director of Melbourne International Airport. Ennis joined the airport in 1992 as manager of finance and administration, and was named executive director in 2005. As Executive Director, Ennis has spearheaded significant growth in airport development, flight services and passenger traffic. During his tenure, the airport also has garnered an $800,000 federal Small Community Air Service Development Program grant and landed new airlines and major industrial-park tenants, including Kindred Hospital and Embraer's only North American assembly facility. Creation of the Florida Tech Research Park in late 2009 is expected to bring additional development, technological innovation, jobs and prestige to the airport and partner Florida Institute of Technology. The return of US Airways to the airport in 2010 led to an unprecedented marketing partnership with the legacy carrier to promote the region.

Ennis also is credited with directing renewed efforts to get federal funding for an Interstate 95/Ellis Road interchange, which would provide a crucial link to the airport for commerce and travelers.

He is a certified public finance officer (CPFO) and a member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) as well as the American Association of Airline Executives (AAAE). Ennis, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and native of Merritt Island, earned a bachelor's degree in accounting at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., and a bachelor's degree in forestry at the University of Florida. Prior to joining the airport staff, he was assistant finance director for the City of Melbourne.
