Porter Airlines Enters Florida via Orlando Melbourne International Airport (MLB)
Inaugural Flight Scheduled for 1:30 p.m. this Saturday, December 19th
MELBOURNE, Fla. (December 17, 2015) – With a fully-staffed and outfitted 40,000 sq. ft. customs facility, Orlando Melbourne International Airport (MLB) welcomes Porter Airlines’ inaugural flight into Florida at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 19th. MLB is considered the beachside airport for the Orlando theme park region.
“It was such an honor to be selected for Porter’s entry into the largest tourism region in the world,” said Greg Donovan, AAE, executive director of the airport. The airport reflects the coastal personality of the region and is closest to beaches, Port Canaveral cruises and the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex. World-class theme parks including Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Florida are all within reach, allowing for visitors to easily mix sunny days at the beach with nights at the parks.
“Porter’s arrival into Florida will be celebrated statewide,” said Eric Garvey, executive director of Space Coast Office of Tourism. “Here on the Space Coast, it is especially meaningful. Canadian visitors represent our largest segment of tourists. Having nonstop flights from Toronto is a signal to other airlines that we have arrived on the international tourism scene. It’s gratifying and a sign of things to come.”
Porter Airlines is respected as one of the most passenger-focused airlines in the industry, with a ‘flying refined’ approach consistently earning prestigious world travel awards. Its premium passenger experience includes leather seats, complimentary beer and wine, and airport lounge access.
“Orlando Melbourne is now our most southern destination. This route provides a convenient connection between downtown Toronto and a part of Florida that lacked international air service until now,” said Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. The seasonal Porter flights depart Toronto at 10:20 a.m. and depart from Central Florida at 3:45 p.m. Complete schedule and pricing information is available at www.FlyPorter.com.
With a powerful assist from Senator Nelson and his staff, along with Congressman Posey’s office, MLB is now capable of processing more than 400 passengers an hour. “We are grateful to Senator Bill Nelson, Congressman Bill Posey and their staffs for their timely yeoman’s effort critical to processing international flights of this caliber,” said Jack Ryals, chairman of the Melbourne Airport Authority. The airport also expressed gratitude for the cooperation and partnership of the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) teams both here and in Washington, D.C., with great regard to Deputy Assistant Commissioner John Wagner, and local CBP officials Eddie Oliveros and Jeannie Anderson Davis.
